MEET SADIE!
Sadie was only 18 months old when she arrived in the Bay Area
from the Hollywood Puppy track in Hollywood, Florida. Sadie would have been "discarded"
had it not been for the wonderful people at Greyhound
Friends for Life in Northern California. They flew her to California
with the hopes that she could be adopted and live the rest of her life in a loving
home. That was in February of 1999.
We knew absolutely nothing about the Greyhound racing world. We
were in for a shock!
Just prior to this time we had watched a program on "The
Animal Planet" that showed the horrific lives and deaths that many, if not
most, of the racing Greyhounds face when they are just seconds too slow from making
enough money for their "owners". We were stunned, saddened and then
angered by the treatment that these sweet and gentle dogs are given. We learned
that these once noble dogs are bred and taken into the racing industry for the
sole purpose of making money. When the money is no longer there, dogs like our
Sadie are killed, often brutally.
This is why we have Sadie today. She accepted the invitation to
come into our home on February 21, 1999. It was a Sunday. It was and is one of
the happiest occasions of our lives. We have seen Sadie grow from a very scared,
shy and timid dog and into a bold, loving, sweet dog.
Sadie's motto seems to be: 'HERE I AM WORLD--I'll run, but only
if I want to and then it will be just for fun, not for my life."
We love her dearly.
